The Benefits of Music Activity for Disadvantaged Children

Voices Foundation is thrilled to provide the third briefing paper in our ongoing series of #VFBriefing reports: 'The Benefits of Music Activity for Disadvantaged Children'.

The quality of school-based music education is variable and inconsistent. Children from lower-income households that attend schools with additional challenges or less resources are disproportionately affected. Voices Foundation therefore prioritises its resources to ensure that these children have access to a high-quality music education.

This paper explores what we know about the impacts of music participation for children experiencing disadvantage. It emphasises that participation in music activities may be extremely helpful, creating an accessible environment through which disadvantaged children can learn, as well as supporting their language and communication skills.
